    Porridge was made by putting meal into boiling water and boiling for twenty minutes. Wooden mugo were used as drinking vessels.

  2. Wheaten bread and oaten meal bread were eaten long ago, but their principal food was potatoes. These they ate three times daily.
    Oaten-meal cake was a dainty, eaten at Christmas or at any other big festival. This bread was made on a board the meal was mixed with water but very often with buttermilk. It was placed on a pan beside the fire. It was baked shortly.
